If your organs weren't working like as well as they should, you would know about it, and the doctors would have definitely knew that. Organs usually aren't harmed by the chemical smarties, but will be my smoking, drinking, obesity, etc., but if a medicine caused damage to an organ, there would be big warnings about it before you take it.
If you are having those symptoms with exercise, you should talk to your doctor about that and also talk to your doctor about getting on an exercise program and how to eat better to shed some of the stomach problems. Also, if you're having problems with bloating, I read in a natural remedy magazine to lie in a warm bath for at least half an hour, but make sure it's not too hot. That usually helps bloating some. The SOB can just be simply from you not being in shape, which corresponds to obesity, but I would get checked for the dizziness. But yes, all three of those things are part of panic attacks too, each one of them. But with the symptoms of panic attacks, it is always best to get them checked out first before saying it is just anxiety, but it is important to also believe once you're told it is anxiety to really believe it is anxiety and work to overcome it.
have you done any reading on panic disorder? have you checked out that book I recommended? Have you met with your psychiatrist yet?
hope all is better!
Lazy - sometime works and sometime didn't want to work. It didn't work as it should be.
chemical smarties - colourful tablets (medicine). It wasn't made by chocolate but it made by chemical! Not sweet, bitter taste.
When the Dr wants me to take medicines, he/she will said I am here wrong, there not right. When I am feeling terrible, they all said, is anxiety or panic attack. Oh, obesity can damage the heart? Must be obesity caused that. I want to take off my bloating stomach first. I think it is the heaviest part of my body! I like to walk but I don't like the palpitations, dizziness (light-headed) and SOB join in my walk. When I walk, the palpitations, dizziness and SOB are they the symptoms of anxiety or panic attack? It is 100% will occur, I just ignore it or I have to do something with it?
What do you mean by your organs being lazy? What do you mean by chemical smarties? One thing that will definitely help is getting exercise and trying to eat better, which will help both your obesity and anxiety. I have been reassured many times myself that even long term panic attacks do not harm your body in any way at all. Ever. No matter how many of them you get. There have been numerous studies that show that panic attacks don't hurt your body at all, but what can be harmful is the avoidance behavior that usually comes with the attacks. All those panic attacks will make you feel exhausted and really tired, but that's about it.
I guess I really don't know what you mean by your organs being lazy? Can you say more? Do you feel there is something wrong with your organs? Being obese can make you feel awful sluggish, and that is something that can damage your heart, but panic attacks won't.
Thanks to all of you here who are helping me on this tuff path. I'll talk to my psychiatrist at this visit. I am in the cross section and thinking which direction might right to me. I got quite a lot of symptoms that you had mentioned.
I'm curious now is because my organ is going to be lazy, one by one. I have to take so much medicines and push it to work harder. I'm wondering my poor body can cope with that or not? Am I on the right treatment or not? Other than anxiety and panic attack, one of the dr also diagnosed me with obesity. I didn't have any major illness and why should I taking all those chemical smarties? The real anxiety and panic attack then left it there without treatment? I want and wish to know could a long term anxiety and panic attack can harm our body or not? As you said it won't, then why my organs are so lazy now? Would one day they are on strike? Or they were damaged by the chemical smarties? Or it is just a sign that told me they are unable to handle those medications?
I hate to say this, but it sounds like you definitely need a new psychiatrist, asap. You need medications, ones that are not tranquilizers, to get you through this rough patch. That much valium is not a good idea at all, and overdosing on it can be a bad thing.
When you're waking up like that, those are still panic attacks. I've had it happen before to me. What happens is you start to get some bodily sensation and then your mind automatically overreacts to it, and starts pumping the adernaline, and wakes you up feeling like that. It's usually a sign of panic disorder out of control and the big part of controlling that would be to take a SSRI antidepressant. You need something that will help prevent things and let you be awake and live your life. But you really need to internalize that these WILL NOT HURT YOUR HEART!!! I'm pretty sure right now that you're suffering from panic disorder, and it needs to get treated. You really need a new psychiatrist.
Valium will not put other organs to sleep...that's called death. They will keep on working just fine, but once again, I don't recommend that much valium.
The symptoms of a panic attack are as follows, and this is how they diagnose them:
The American Psychiatric Association's official Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders IV (DSM-IV) defines a panic attack as a discrete period of intense fear or discomfort, in which 4 (or more) of the following symptoms develop abruptly and reach a peak within 10 minutes:
Palpitations, pounding heart, or fast heart rate
Sweating
Trembling and shaking
Sensations of shortness of breath or smothering
Feelings of choking
Chest pain or discomfort
Nausea or abdominal distress
Feeling dizzy, unsteady, lightheaded, or faint
Derealization (feelings of unreality) or depersonalization (being detached from oneself)
Fear of losing control or going crazy
Fear of dying
Paresthesias (numbness or tingling sensations)
Chills or hot flashes
Some of these symptoms will most likely be present in a panic attack. The attacks can be so disabling that the person is unable to express to others what is happening to them. A doctor might also note various signs of panic: The person may appear terrified or shaky or be hyperventilating (deep, rapid breathing causing dizziness).
type in panic attacks and or panic disorder in a search engine, like google, and read the material....read as much as you can! That's been the only thing that has really helped me outside of drugs.
I recommend this website:

You need to be commended for realizing you are experiencing this anxiety instead of denying it and blaming others. You have taken the first HUGE step in the recovery process!!! Congrats!!!!
As soon as you possibly can, speak to the doctor about how he/she can help you with the disrupted sleep.
If you have been waking that many times at night you need help. I am so sorry you are experiencing this.
Well don't take 10mg 4 times a day. That's extremely excessive imo.
I probably won't be followed the doctor's direction... I only take less of the precribed drugs if it works. I'll take more or not even to take any, if it didn't work that it should be but I'll let the doctor knows that.
I've seen a psychiatrist every forthnightly. She didn't prescribe any drug for me. She didn't give me any instruction to deal with these problems.
My attacks almost happened during my sleep. It wakes me up 3-5 times during a night sleep. I went to the ER few times as they told was anxiety. My chest runs like an express train and then start sweat. The reports shows my heart is in declined in each echo done. I wonder how the dr diagnose anxiety or panic attack? Oh, I love my heart. I don't want anything that can be damaged my heart....
I'm curious too. When I was a teenager time, the dr prescribed valium 5mg three times a day and 10mg before bed. I slept during my school session. Now if I take 10mg 4 times a day then how I'm going to drive and work? I would and could be end up in the bed whole day and night!
Seriouly, it might put other organs in sleep as well! Would they?
Have you seen a psychiatrist at all? They will know exactly what to get you on, medication wise, to alleviate your anxiety symptoms, but you definately need to go to a therapist and start doing cognitive behavior therapy, which is a great way to lessen your anxious thoughts.
I still deal with these problems, since I have panic disorder, but right now I am in therapy and am currently taking Lexapro to prevent the anxiety. It is an antidepressant, but there are studies that show the link between low levels of serontonin and anxiety. So an antidepressant really works in preventing the anxiety and taking it down a few notches when you do get anxious, plus they don't make you drowsy and they treat the source of the problem. So I take lorazepam as needed.
I'm not so sure 10 mg of valium 4 times a day is a good idea...that's some heavy duty sedatives! I really recommend going for an antidepressant because my mom is currently trying to fix her anxiety by sedation, and your body just gets used to it and it wears off, so she's still as anxious.
I also recommend getting some relaxation cds...these have helped me SOOO much!
If you ever need to talk, you can create a profile on here and message me anytime!
Be sure to follow doctor's directions on any medication. I hope you feel better soon.
Thanks for the reassurance. I think I'll start 10mg of valium four time a day to get rid of the anxiety or panic attack. Would it end up with my brain stop work on the next issue? I don't mind to sedate myself now..... I can't tolerate it anymore!
If you have an mp3 player, Johns Hopkins University has a podcast available on the physiology of affective disorders. Very interesting and informative.
Anxiety/panic attacks CANNOT cause any sort of damage to yourself at all, ever! That's actually a sign of panic disorder when you are afraid that this attacks will harm you in some way. Just try to internalize that they cannot hurt you, ever. There is no reason to be scared.
The truth is that they conditions that cause palpatations, such as a the pacs and pvcs, happen to everyone, but only a few people even notice them. Those who notice them are just very sensitive to their bodies, and most of these people have anxiety problems.
I had an event monitor on for a month, and a holter monitor on for 48 hours, and they found my palpatations were caused by pacs, pvcs, sinus arrhtymia and sinus tachycardia. All of these are incredibly common and not harmful, but my reaction to these sensations are anxiety.
Also, anxiety can very easily cause palpatations, and I have noticed this myself as someone who deals with palpatations and have panic disorder.
I hope this helps!
