Anxiety vs. Heart Problem

Hey, I am 24 year old female who was born with a heart murmur that I grew out of by age 15. Around the time my heart finished mending I was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder.  I have been on medication for it and have been fine for the most part. Recently I noticed I was having what I think you would call heart palpitations...I call it a thud.  Every so often my heart will have a "heavy" beat.  It happens several times a day and causes me to take a staggered breath. It is brief but reoccurring. I went to my doctor and had an EKG and blood test.  The EKG only found that my standing heart rate was a little high and the blood work confirmed it is not my thyroid causing the problem. The doctor says if the "thuds" keep happening that I should wear a monitor. How long do I wait to see if these "thuds" go away and how can I be certain they are not just my anxious mind playing more tricks on me?

I wouldnt wait as the longer you dont know what is happening the worse it is. I know from recent experience my frequency reduced when I knew what is was. My cardio said stress can cause them to start and eat bananas and tomatoes for K. I had 53 in the day i wore the monitor and he wasnt bothered but also did an echo, stress test and ecg and all blood tests i requested includign potassium and all the other electrolytes.

If it happens several times most days then its worth getting the holter for your own piece of mind and as a baseline for your medical history.  If you do have PVCs or PACs or any other non-sinus rhythms the doctor will determine if any further tests are needed etc   The good news is that most of the time people find out their thuds are disconcerting but totally benign.  Good luck!
