Anyone been told about magnesium?

I was wondering if anyone has been told about taking magnesium for heart rhythm problems? I had been suffering with daily PVC's which started last December and with each month they were getting worse til I truly felt that the next time my heart skipped beats that my heart would just stop all together. It was controlling my life as I lived in fear even afraid to leave home.
Being a retired nurse and looking for more natural remedies, I decided to do my own research. I found what has now proven to be my answer for my PVC's, magnesium. I take 500 mgs. daily and the skipped beats are all but gone. I discovered the importance of magnesium in our diets and that most people are lacking in it. It helps in so many functions for our bodies from controlling heart rate to relaxing muscles. So, do your research. Check out magnesium on the internet and then ask your doctor, I did. He told me, if it's helping then by all means take it. How I wish ALL doctors would tell their patients these things so we don't have to suffer needlessly and become scared and anxious. Also, why be forced to take harsh medications? I was taking 75 mgs. of atenolol for my PVC's but it made me so tired and I was having to force myself to do the littlest things around the house. Now I am down to only 25 mgs. and what a difference.
I'd love to hear if you start taking magnesium and if it helps. I will tell you to look for magnesium citrate or orotate not oxide as it can and will cause diarrhea. You'll know if you've reached you tolerance level if you get diarrhea, if so then cut back on the dosage. I've been fine on the 500 mgs. and probably could try taking a bit more. Anyway, good luck and I hope this helps someone.

get off oxide and make it mag glycinate, taurate, citrate, or malate...your cardio is wrong...oxide is the least absorbed...check it out...to health and happiness!

Todays update , I have taken the advice of many people on this site and here is what I have achieved.
I began taking 500mg Magnesium I bought at Wlagreens and 500mg of Alpha lipoic Acid also bought at walgreens. And my prescription for protonix. The Papitations are almost gone had 1 so far today compared to hundreds yesterday. Still think this is directly related to acid reflux and the vegus nerve. Any comments welcome.

My cardio recommended magnesium oxide 400mg...I've been doing much better with this and the fact she decreased Lopressor to 25mg bid and added Norvasc 5 mg daily and I also take Cozaar 100 mg daily.  My PVCs have become tolerable now.

When I started taking magnesium, my PVCs decreased exponentially.  I posted it at the time.  Mine seem to be back and I realize I am not taking my mag as I used to.  Also, I have  different brand now.  This may be some of my problem.

I've been taking magnesium chelate (2 x 500mg/day) for years, and it has helped greatly. My pvc's aren't gone (I wish!), but I used to have them much more frequently. I also take reflux coated fish oil, 2x/day (only since October 2008), and that seems to help too. My naturopath recommended the magnesium (plus potassium, but I have since replaced that by eating bananas on a regular basis). I can only recommend these vitamins, they have helped me!

I was told by my Dr. that my potassium and magnesium levels are on the lower side, which could be causing (or contributing) to my PVC's. (3.5 for K+ and 1.7 for mag) These aren't extremely low though..they are actually within normal limits. What do you guys think. Do you think that its a contributing factor? I started taking DHA yesterday w/my prenatal vitamin and eating more potassium and I noticed that today the PVC's have quieted a bit. I am thankful for that.

luckily magnesium worked AMAZINGLY for my PVCs. if you try magnesium and the lowest dose isnt working maybe try the next one up! But of course always make sure with your doctor first if its okay for you to take that.

I use Windmill Magnesium 500 mg as Gluconate (from Walgreens).  I use this brand b/c I read about it on this website on another post.  I have never had any problems with it whatso ever.  I take 1000 mg in the morning and 1000 mg in the night.

What type of magnesium are you using? Remember, many forms of magnesium are used as a laxative.

I take magnesium everyday and have been doing it for many months.  It helps a lot with the popcorn machine in my chest.  I've heard you need to take it with Zinc, and Calcium too.  I also eat a bananna everyday for the potassium...
