HEART RHYTHM COMMUNITY
Anyone experience this?

Anyone experience this?

After being in the hospital for afib and having my heart rhythm restored, my cardiologist put me on coreg as well as coumadin. I have strange dreams and really have had a lack of energy. I expect to be slower at age 77, but not this
bad. I am a recently retired male and would really like more pep to exercise and be more active

I assume Coreg is a beta blocker... they are famous for causing fatigue.  I take Metoprolol - and I have found that I have adjusted somewhat.  The medication still takes it toll on my energy (I think it is the problem, I am a mere 70).

Metoprolol is a selective BB, and is not supposed to affect one's mental state, but it may be the source of your dream problem.  I have what I call "trouble mares" every night and have for years.  That said, it has been going on long enough that I don't remember which was first, the dream problem or going on BB.  When not on BB I was on Propafenone, an anti arrhythmic drug and I think I may have had dreams then too... typing this response I have to admit I don't know if Propafenone is also a BB.

If you are in sinus rhythm and are having difficult symptoms of fatigue and dreams I'd suggest talking with your doctor about changing your mediation - to something other than a BB if possible.  I have no suggestions, but will take this up again with my cardiologist.  He did agree on my last check up to let me drop my dose of BB by 50%, but the dreams continue.

Thanks for your help. My dreams  usually are also "trouble mares" (like your label) I will discuss this with my cardiologist when I see him in a couple of weeks.
