Arrhythmias

Search Results for I suffered from a bout of atrial fibrilation four month back.I am on Amidorone 200 mg and cumadine anti coagulant. I have felt uncomfortable from time to time during the night. Another cardiologist has suggested that I should move to flecainide. Is it worth it.? Has anyone moved from one to the other?

Has anyone developed an arrhthymia after a PFO closure?  I want to know if it is usually a temporary complication of the PFO closure.

I was on Amiodorone for 6 months for Afib after being cardioverted 2 times. I hated the med and all of its' sideffects. I stopped taking it and did so by tapering off of it. I changed cardiologists and went for ablation last April. Things went well for 2 months and I suffered a brief bout of Afib requiring cardioversion again and then a low dose of Flecainide. I am now off of the Felc(on it for 1 and a half months) and just taking aspirin. I now have very few Pvcs now and then and have not reached the 6 month mark just yet. I expect that I will continue having pvcs now and then. I'm going to give it a year and see what happens. Our hearts get a little angry when they have been messed with. I felt better on the Flecainide. Stay strong premhealth we are here for you.

Amidorone is such a weird med to me...its what is considered to be a tapered medication that when started the docs usually start at a very high dose and then taper it down into a lower dose so that it levels off in the body until your tissues are fully saturated with it.  Many times it takes weeks to see the full benefits.  I do not take flecainide but take antenolol and had major issues with atrial fib a couple of years ago that was getting progressive and chose to have an ablation done for a cure instead of staying on the meds for a treatment instead and it was very successful for me.  No one in this day and age should have to experience atrial fib with all of the options out there to help with it.  If they have you on coumadin and a super strong med like the amidrorone i am wondering if they have spoken to you about the possibility of having an ablation done to get rid of the atrial fib.  I have read that many other members of this community rave about the flecainide working well for them but why not go for a cure of the atrial fib if you can rather than just treating it?  Ablations were developed specifically to offer pts. a cure for atrial fib and i know having had it that its no walk in the park...for me after the ablation it is now a distant memory...good luck
