Atenolol and exercise lower heart rate due to drug

My heart rate while taking Atenolol and exerciseis is low is that bad?

I exercise at a preventive cardiology facility -- haven't lately -- long story.  The trainers there are very good, have a crash cart, etc.

I've been told that you can exercise slower, longer and get the same result -- same number of calories burned.  Anything you can do will help.  And you can do the strength training, etc.

My heart rate stays low, I don't even check it during exercise, just do what I can and I always feel better.  On a day I'm having a lot of irregular beats, they advise just to do a light workout -- 20 minutes on the nu-step is better than nothing.  Not sure if the Atenolol is intended to lower your bp.  Mine is to keep my heart rate low, but drops my bp.  Hope this helps -- good luck.
