Atrial Fibrillation and Sick Sinus Syndrome

Hi, everyone-my first post here. My mom has has atrial fibrillation for the last couple of years. She has had mostly fast heartbeat (tachycardia) but alternating with slow heartbeat. The doctors she has seen have put her on all kinds of meds like beta-blockers and anti-arrythmics mostly. Finally now she had a Holter monitor on and got to record when she goes in and out of a fib. It showed that she probably has sick sinus syndrome, because she has a fast heart rate, and then her heart just about stops as it is going out of a fib. Anyway, the Dr recommends dual chamber pacemaker and has also mentioned ablation therapy...I was curious if anyone has had similar sypmtoms or has had a pacemaker implanted. I would like to know what the success rate of pacemaker/ablation therapy is on a-fib...She is nervous and I just want to know more so I can help her get through it! Thanks!
