Been away due to sickness in family!!!

Hi everyone, On Thursday my father-in-law suffered a mild heart attack. He went to the ER and was kept overnight and transported to our Heart Center Hospital where they decided to do heart cath. That went well but when the doctor came out he called the family back for a consultation and let us know that he had very many blockages.They decided they were going to do a triple bypass. He had 2 completley closed and several others in the 90 's and 80's. He had never been in the hospital in his whole life. He has diabetes and some other health issues. Anyway they performed the surgery yesterday and he was in from 1:30 until 8:00. They told us we could see him in about 2 hours. Two hours turned into about 45 minutes. We got to visit 2 at a time and that was not my Pap lying there. He was so swollen and they told us that you gain between 7-10 pounds during bypass. I was shocked. They had him on a ventilator and told us he couldn't her us talk but when I would talk to him he would move his shoulders.

This morning at 3:00 he woke up and wanted his glasses and teeth, He said that he was hungry and they asked him what he wanted he said," Gravy and Biscuits, and sausage. They said because he had been so good they would treat him to it if he would walk. He has walked about 4 times today and has sit up for the most part.

Now to think what he has went through and what I have I feel like a true whiner. Yes my heart is skipping like crazy today but I am not going to complain when a 66 year old man can come out of such a traumatic experience.When I seen him I thought that could have been me. That was the saddest most scariest thing that I have ever seen. Not once has he complained.What a trooper.

During this whole bout with him since Thursday I have been skip free. Can anyone explain that? Just today it came knocking. Weird!!!

Oh well better be going, I am going to visit my Pap for a few. They have already moved him to the step-down unit. I spoke with him while I was at work and you couldn't tell one thing had been done to him.

Just a quick update. My FL gets to go home today. He is doing much better and is slightly depressed and scared. They live a good hour and 15 minutes from the hospital so I think that he is a little anxious. He is such a srong man but he is still weak when it comes to worry. Just like the rest of us. Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers that have went out for him. I am doing some better and have sent in only 6 readings. I go back to the doc next month and a sleep study on the 27th. I hope that all is well and you guys have a wonderful weekend. Headed to the big Bristol Race. I can't wait. I love the races. Love and hugs to you all.

It's remarkable how fast people recover after bypass. I wish your FL a speedy recovery and tell him to just take it easy and that we are all praying for him.

Thanks for the comments... My father-in-law is much better. Gets to go home tommorrow.Yes I do believe that my mind was occupied with him. I just sent in a reading on my monitor because it is acting up today. They got a good dose of what I feel all the time today. No call from the doctor yet. She was going to let him know. Have you guys worn a loop. Did they ever call your doc? I feel so foolish after I seen my Pap go through with what he went through. Kep up the prayers and well wishes.God Bless you guys.

Great to hear your FIL is feeling like "Biscuits and Gravy!"  Here's for daily improvement and many, many happy and healthy years ahead....

Oh, your heart wasn't skipping because you had more important things on your mind : )
However, maybe you should stick to calmer days and a few skips : )

I am so glad to hear that he is doing well.  This post really put things into perspective for me.  I have been having a "woe is me day" and I am so grateful that you posted this.  It's hard for me to imiagine being in such good spirits after such an ordeal!

Do you think it's possible you didn't have any skips because you were so involved with what was going on?  Your mind was totally off of you and on your Father-in-law.....that may be it.  You sound much better this week Karen, I am glad.
