I do not think there is any special concern about surgery when suffering from AFib, other than a short period of increased blood clot risk due to having to come off of all aspirin and anticoagulants for a period of time.
Even a simple colonoscopy requires getting off of aspirin and anticoagulants if they are being used.
My husband had an ablation a couple of weeks ago and yes the flutter has returned but not as bad. Seeing his specialist again for another ablation. The problem is he needs a hip surgery asap. What is the outcome of having surgery when heart it in AF.
Yes, it is. Unfortunately, there seems to be a recurrence rate for arrhythmias, even years after an ablation. A recent article showed a 5 year recurrence rate of almost 30% (after tx for SVT - some developed afib).
Yes. I know someone who had to have a third ablation. I've also read about some people who have had 3 or more ablations and still have a-fib.
