Hi,
I had SVT for 36 years before I had an ablation done this past Aug. In my case, my heart would just start racing (180 BPM) and it could last anywhere from a minute to an hour and a half. I got pretty good at learning to handle the episodes by holding my breath which is how I could get it to stop. I saw as the years went on, the episodes were coming more often.
I don't think a rate of 225 bpm is a panic attack. It just doesn't seem to me that the rate would be that high.
I eventually got so tired of dealing with the SVT episodes. It got to the point I was scared to go places and do things for fear an episode would happen.
I am veryhappy I had the ablation done. Believe me , I was petrified and put it off for many years but it has been so wonderful not dealing with SVT anymore.
If I can help you in any way, please let me know.
Betty
My heart rate has gotten as high as 225 bpm! I have to go to the ER, get a shot to slow it back down, then I am released to go back home, work, or wherever as if nothing happened. I know it sounds ridiculous but I am so sick of the routine. My doctors have said that because it was occurring only 2-3 times a year daily medication/surgery wasn't warranted, but certainly optional. It seems to be happening more often now but Im so freaked out about it I can no longer tell if I'm having SVT or a panic attack. Can't I just change my diet?
Hi, How fast is your heart rate and what studies/tests have they done? I too am suffering with the same problem right now with no clear cut answers and this is so frustrating. I can't sleep because of mine. So I know your anxiety and frustrations. You are not alone. I too am afraid of heart surgery and meds. But I have resigned for the medication option at the present.
