Dialated Cardiomyopathy occurs when the space in the ventricle becomes larger due to the enlargement of the cardiac muscle and thus the muscle doesn't pump as good and blood pools and backs up. It is the pooling of blood that can cause blood clots and this is often seen in patients with afib, and that is why they are put on blood thinners. Same thing can happen in the ventricles. Hope this answers your question!
