Cardioversion
Has anyone had a cardioversion done with a known bloodclot that showed up on TEE?

My understanding is that, at least for afib, restoration of a normal rhythm by cardioversion can dislodge a blood clot in the atrial appendage and cause a heart attack or a stroke. That's why a TEE is taken prior to a cardioversion as a precaution... to insure you have no clots before proceeding. So if a clot is detected you should NOT have a cardioversion. Instead you should immediately be placed on an anticoagulant to dissolve the clot.
