39 is in "range" I think...haven't looked it up. Higher is better, the best way I know to raise it is exercise. Of course, raising the HDL without a lowering of the LDL means your total cholesterol number goes up, but that fine. That is one reason the ration LDL/HDL is important. The higher the HDL, the lower this number, and the better the indication. I may have the ration upside down, but he theory is the same, high HDL to LDL is good.
