Confusion over complication with eps and ablation

by Jadieb, 1 hour ago
Hi just wondered if anyone could help. I am 21 and suffered with tachycardia since i was a child. I was on medication for a few years and when this didn't help i was advised to have the catheter ablation. I had this at 11. The first was unsuccessful due to a malfunction with the machine so I went back a few months later. The second was thought to be a success. I didn't feel any palpitations after. Until about 3 -4 years ago. I went back and had tests and they felt that it was the same thing and from my records the temperature of the ablation may not of fully burnt the tissue. Yesterday I went back in for the electophysiology study with ablation to follow. They did this under local anesthetic whereas I had general as a child. I was extremely anxious so couldn't relax and they had problems getting the catheter in my groin due to old scar tissue build up which caused me a ly of discomfort. During the procedure they noted something different but as I don't understand doctor words i couldn't understand. The doctor told me there had been some damage from the last procedure so to do the ablation could be more harmful to me then benefit. So he decided to end it there. I am now awaiting to go back for more tests as they don't believe it is tachycardia. My symptoms years ago I felt my heart race and felt dizzy and nauseas whereas now I feel the same
But the palpitations only last a few minutes not long like they did years ago and not as frequent.

He mentioned doing another procedure under general next time but I'm unsure what the next step is now.

I had a drug that also made my chest heavy I'm unsure why they used this drug it made me
Feel awful I felt like I was struggling to breathe and then I heard them all say now that's very interesting. And then he did it again and I felt paralysed for a short period of time it was awful. He told me I was very interesting which is great for them but not for me! I just want answers!

I'm now very sore in my groin as he really struggled to get wires in due to the old scar tissue.

Not much I can say to help, you seem to understand better than I what to expect.  The sore groin seems to be as you say, but I do read from time to time people have some soreness even from their first ablation.  I'm sure that will pass within a short time, or at least I hope so.

I think it unfortunate that doctors would describe you as "interesting"... I think that is about the same as saying they don't understand.  Is that a deficiency on their part or did you exhibit problems that are not understood by medicine?  Guess you have to work with them, but I think you have every reason to check around to see if you and be referred to an EP surgeon who has more experience.
