Could PVC's be caused from hypothyroidism

My daughter is 8 years old and was just diagnosed with having PVC's on 12/24/08. She was also born without a thyroid gland, (1 in 100,000 ). She takes .88 mg of synthroid daily and has been on this dose for over 2 years. I feel that she is "low thyroid'. However, her blood work continus to show that she is in "normal" range, (whatever that is???). Since PVC's are often contributed to hormonal imbalances, I can not keep from feeling that the two MUST somehow be related. If anyone out there can give me some insite to this, I would be so appreciative!

Good morning and thank you for your kind words and prayers. When you asked about symptoms that she may be having that might be indicators of being hypothyroid, I forgot to mention muscle aches in legs and constipation with occasional tinges of blood. She also seems to be hungry all the time and craves carbohydrates. I have managed to get 2 pounds off of her since the cardiac apt. on 12/24/08, which is not alot, but it is a start and better than gaining two pounds! She is playing basketball right now (Dad is coach) and she had symptoms of PVC's last night in practice. Please pray that the holter monitor results on Mon. 1/19 won't reveal a chronic condition. I do not want to have to give my 8 year old cardiac meds! If it's not a chronic problem, then it may be something that she can just live with and that will hopefully go away with weight loss and nutritional suppliments, depending on what the blood profile reveals from the DO. The DO is also wondering if her body is converting the T4 to T3? He also brought up the idea that sometimes when someone is born without one gland, organ, or limb, it often times is not the only thing missing!! I never considered that until now. What are your thoughts on these last two items of interest?

Hello...

I'm glad that she will be receiving further testing to gain insight into what is causing her to have these PVC's.

Oh the poor kid! Yes, I sure do know how mean kids can be! I am so sorry to hear how this is really impacting her young life. But you are a good mom, you are not letting any stone go unturned and I know that you will expect the same from the Dr's who are treating her.

Keep your chin up and keep the faith, better days are right over the horizen:) Please let me know how things turn out as I am very interested:)

God Bless you and yours!

Thanks for your reply, Yes, she has been gaining weight steadily over the last 2 years. She is tall for her age, but the pediatric cardiologist felt that she needed to loose 30 pounds. He said that the weight was not the cause of the PVC's,however, he said he has seen them go away with weight loss. He said that she could have been born with this, however, as her mother, I think it would of revealed itself before now. It is happening during exercise, and she's been in organized sports since the age of 4 and has never had a problem until this year, when she began holding her heart during soccer games. She has been pretty emotional as of late, but I think that she might be bouncing that off of me. It doesn't help that she had to go back to school after the holidays wearing a holter monitor. Kids can be pretty mean sometimes. The pediatric endochronologist said that the PVC's had nothing to do with her thyroid levels, because she's in the normal range. I took her to a DO who specializes in hormones, metabolism, and nutrition two days ago, and he felt that the two things were more than likely related. He will be doing an extensive blood work up on her on Monday 1/19. He is going to take a very close look  for any deficences that can also cause PVC's. We will also be meeting that day with the pediatric cardiologist to review the holter monitor results. I will get his opinion on the effects that not having a thyroid gland could be having on her heart, if her medication levels are not EXACTLY right for her. However, he will probably agree with the endochronologist. I will let you know more after Monday, until then, please add us to your prayer list. God Bless

Hello...

It is true that an inbalance of hormones can cause ectopic beats to occur. Normal TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) level is  0.4 to 4.0 mIU/L. For those that are taking thyroid replacement drugs, the TSH level should be between 0.5 and 2.0 mIU/L.

Does she have any other symptoms ie. fatigue, weight gain, intolerance to cold, dry skin, course hair, muscle aches, depression, irritability etc.? What has the Dr suggested that the cause of the PVC's is from?
