Diagnosed with SVT

Well I went to the Dr last week bawling my eyes out because for a week SOLID everytime I would try to go to sleep just as I would drift asleep I would get a palpitation which felt like an electrical shock through my body, this happend time and time again ALL night long. So I finally went in to the Dr and we did a holter monitor and I went in to look at the results and he showed me and it showed when that shock was being done and that my heart did do more than 25 beats within a 30 second period. He said it wasn't anything to worry about, but he's not in my shoes. That was the longest week of my life to say the least, it has subsided more or less at least to the point of waking me up in a sweat. He doesnt want to put me on beta blockers or anything since I am pregnant (could pregnancy cause the svt's)?  Last month before this all started I had a nuclear stress test and everything was normal, anything I should do now? I want to be able to live a normal life, but its hard when your scared it might come again.. and why was most of mine while trying to sleep.. I did have some bouts of tachy during the day but not a whole lot. He said my heart rate never went above 130 or at least that;s what I think he said, pretty sure though.

Hello...

There are many woman who report the onset of SVT during pregnancy...The thought behind this is the increase in hormones. I can understand how you feel regarding the Dr's comment "nothing to worry about..." You're right, he's not in your shoes and can't completely understand the fear and anxiety that come from this. But, his statement is correct. SVT is not an arrhythmia that poses any real risk to you.

Since you had a nuclear stress test last month, that showed a normal functioning heart and during the time you were in SVT...your heart rate did not go over 130, this is good news for you. For some, the onset of SVT comes with heart rates in the 200's...Arrhythmias tend to have a mind of their own, so I can't really with certainty tell you why yours came on while you were trying to sleep.

My suggestion for you is to try and relax, get the recommended amount of sleep every night, avoid caffeine, make sure to drink a good amount of water etc. I hope that your symptoms subside, but do suggest if they worsen, call your Dr's office to discuss treatment options.

I know what you are going through. About a week after I found out I was pregnant I started getting a "skipping" in my chest called PVC's and they have not stopped since. I'm sure  that I get hundreds of these in 1 day. I also have periods of SVT and was picked up on the holter monitor to get up to 210 bpm. I have had the SVt for a few years ever since I was pregnant with my daughter. It is very scary..I am wondering if mine are hormone related as well..It is a mystery to me but I would like to get to thr root of the problem and figure out why these keep occuring..Good luck to you and with your pregnancy.. I know the feeling of being scared all to well so I am with you on this!!

Thanks for the responses.. Well so much for them going away, they started back again tonight. Aren't I lucky.. They are annoying but what scares me is going days on end without getting any sleep as I am being jolted awake when I do start going to sleep.  What's the real difference between SVT and PVC's? I also am hypothyroid as I had thyroid cancer removed november last year and am still not on meds for this yet. Any help would be appreciated.
