Echocardiogram

I was having heart palpatations in the past and my doctor scheduled an echocardiogram. Well, from what I've heard from a friend and my dad, having both had echocardiograms before, the person giving the echocardiogram usually says if your heart looks good or not. The person doing mine said nothing about my heart condition whatsoever. She didn't say it looked normal or anything. I found out that this person is called a sonographer, and that they are not supposed to comment on your heart condition. I was kind of scared because I thought that she might not have said anything about my heart due to the fact that there was something really wrong with it, but I'm just kinda paranoid. Have any of you had an echocardiogram and did your sonographer comment on your heart condition or not?  My doctor told me to take a baby aspirin a day for my heart because he suspects that I have high blood pressure, but I didn't even know you were supposed to take aspirin for high blood pressure. My dad takes aspirin for his heart, but he had a heart attack a while back. Does this all sound accurate to you guys? Are they hiding a more serious problem by trying to play it off and not scare me?

Well, my blood pressure is high, but my doctor, for some reason, isn't going to perscribe me medication just yet. I have to go and see another doctor for my echocardiogram results next month, so I'll know the results then. It all kind of confusing I had never heard of aspirin for high blood pressure either. I can remember that the nurses were in an uproar when they took my blood pressure because it was so high. They kept asking me if I was in pain because they thought that might be why my blood pressure was through the roof. My doctor told me to eat a lower sodium diet for the time being, which I've been trying to do, and to take those baby aspirins. My blood pressure is lower, but still too high. Thanks for your help! I really appreciate the info.

It's true the tech is not supposed to make comments about the echo. It's supposed to be analyzed by someone else and your doctor will give you the results. Has your doctor told you what was seen on the echo? They're not supposed to hide information from you. You can ask outright what showed up on the echo and he can explain it all in terms you'd understand.

I've never heard of aspirin used for high blood pressure. From your profile you're a bit young to start aspirin therapy. And the doctor doesn't have to suspect high blood pressure; all he has to do is use the cuff and check it. Something's not right here. Do call the doctor's office and ask for answers. You may be under 18 but in most states you are certainly old enough to see your doctor alone. In my state the "kids" saw their doc alone at age 15. Good luck to you.
