Flutter developed post ablation for a-fib

Flutter developed post ablation for a-fib

I had a an ablation in Aug 06 for a moderate afib.  After healing I had no symptoms at all until May 08 when I developed what my EP described as Atrial Flutter. This has come and gone since then.  I am taking no medicine but am going tomorrow to get an event monitor.  Has anyone else experienced this and has a second ablation cured this?  Needless to say I am bummed about having to deal with this again and would love to hear that someone else has been able to deal with this successfully.

just curious
when you are in atrial flutter, do you notice it?  Are there any symptoms?

I continue to wonder why my EP doesn't think my AFib should be treated with ablation.  So, I read your experience with interest for possible decision making for myself.

I believe AFlutter, like AFib can cause clots and I'd be very uncomfortable if I were not on Coumadin, you didn't mention that as a drug you're taking.

Hey Frenchie

I cant say it is any real big deal.  The worst is that sometimes it makes my chest feel tight and my throat feel pretty tight as well. Most of the time it is pretty brief and perhaps inhanced if I have had caffine.  I went to my EP yesterday and got a event monitor to see what is going on. I have not changed my activity at all, as a matter of fact I ran 4 miles yesterday before going to get my monitor hooked up.

Thanks for your reply.  Do you notice your heart beating faster than normal or did your doctor just tell you that you were in A flutter.
The reason I ask is that I have been getting these wierd vibration feelings in my chest.  I check my pulse and it is normal but I think I remember reading that you can have a normal pulse with a flutter.  (not a fib)
Anyway, I went to the doctor and of course I wasn't feeling those wierd vibrations.  I mentioned A flutter to him and he just looked at me like I was crazy.  He told me he thinks whatever it is, is benign.  I usually feel them at night while lying down.  It feels like a very mild pager going off in your chest or around the rib area.
Thanks again for answering me

I have had the same feeling.  Feels like a buzz or something.  Only brief raised heartbeats.  This monitor is a pain but I hope it will show what is going on?

keep me updated!
I have no increase in heartrate with that buzz.  It is strange.

Will do.  One of the main reason's that I had the ablation to start with is that I hated the way the medicine made me feel. It made my hands and feet cold and the beta blockers kept my heartrate down so much it made it hard for me to do cardio.  I will likely sign up again if my EP thinks it will solve this flutter issue.
