HELP!!! Unexplained tachycardia and high BP

Hi there,

So I'll start at the beginning. I am a 24 yo healthy female with no past medical history. I drink maybe once every other week, don't smoke, no caffeine other then black tea and eat healthy. The only thing that has changed is my BC pill a little over 2 months ago. I switch to the brand Kurvelo which is a little stronger then the low dose pills, but have had 0 issues.

A little over a week ago I was completely fine, exercising...even started Insanity which was going great. My HR has excellent recovery and all after work outs and never pushed myself too much. One night I began to feel a lump sensation in my throat below my voice box and then a day later I was having hot feelings in my stomach, so my GP prescribed me Prilosec for GERD. Well I was feeling a little off going into the day I had my visit and when my vitals were taken my BP was 156/82 when it is normally 120/78 and my HR was 110 when it's normally in the 70s. Grant it...always get a little anxious going into the office but my vitals have never been that bad.
After that visit it never went down. My HR rarely went below 90 with it constantly pounding in my chest. I would even wake up at night with it almost 100. Two days after that started my resting HR got up to 146 which took me to the ER. They did a full blood work up: CT scan with contrast, d-dimer for clots, CBC, full thyroid panel, urinalysis , ECG, EKG, etc. everything came back fine other then my BP and HR were elevated.
I followed up with the cardiologist who did another EKG and an echocardiogram as well as a 24 hr holter. All came back ok. They said they think I have POTS because whenever I would elevate myself to standing my HR got higher. I'm not sure if I really agree with that cause my BP would get higher as well rather then dropping that is typical in POTS.

All I know is I feel awful with the HR and weakness, and feel like I can't do anything. My GP put me on a 5mg beta blocker called bystolic to get my HR AND BP down in the mean time, but I still NEED answers!!! The beta blockers and making me feel weaker/unsteady and along with weird pulsing/tight sensations from my chest down to my legs and sometimes sharp pains on the right side of my sternum. It's better then the pounding, racing heart but now that's making me feel bad in a new way.

Has anyone ever had this issue!!?? Please help!!

Also, breathing has never been an issue other then feeling I need to take a deep breathe every-now and then.

I might try switching back to the other BP since this started after you changed.  Sometimes meds build up in the system and we don't always have the side effects right away.  As the previous poster mentioned things like tea can have affects on people.  I know some teas do have caffeine.  I would watch how much sodium you are getting as well.  If you drink sports drinks they have a lot of sodium.  Either way make sure you drink lots of water.  It is possible you have a bit of dehydration if you aren't getting enough especially if you are doing the insanity routine. That is pretty intense.  Hope you feel better soon.

First, I checked for interactions with your BC pill and Prilosec, none was noted.

In looking elsewhere, I did see the following under possible side effects.

"Side effects of Prilosec (Omeprazole) have been reported to include.

Rarely: Cardiovascular: Chest pain or angina, tachycardia, bradycardia, palpitations, elevated blood pressure, peripheral edema."

Please note that use of vitamins that are significantly higher than 100% of the RDA can have significant impact, on some individuals, concerning cardiac, neurological, and other systems. Same with some teas, herbs, etc.

Not that it applies to you, but some think that natural means benign. People with seizures and heart rhythm issues need to be careful about supplements.
