I have been taking metoprolol 25 mg. for atrial flutter now for almost 3 months and has worked well in controlling my palpatations just a little joint pain and stiffness which i'm going to talk to my cardiologist when I go back on monday
I started to write about how metoprolol worked for me. Then I erased it and started over. Too scary for you. Too depressing to share. Let's leave it at... metoprolol is a good drug and often does work for many people. It is a first line drug choice in that it generally has fewer side effects than many and is fairly effective. Whien I took a LOT of it and with 4 other rhythm drugs, it was still almost no help. I hope it works for you. Blessings to you this holiday season.
When i started on metoprolol for high hr with mvp i started haveing arythmias and heart pounding which i dident have before starting the metoprolol, i did have heart flutters and it stopped those and also my hr would jump up and down from 50,s up to 90,s so doc took me off the meto and put me on cartizem.I know most people can take it without any problems but also know ill never take it again.
oops, I meant to say my DOSES not "does."
I have been on metoprolol for over a year now. My does have changed over time, and the less (lower dosage) I take the better it works better for me.
I've been on Metoprolol for about the last month for SVT and atrial flutter. I started at 50 mg/day and dropped to 25 mg/day after the first 2 days. I had some nausea, sleepiness, etc and passed out on the second day - thats why my dosage was reduced. Prior to taking metoprolol I had SVT episodes about every 2-3 months and I've had one since I started on the metoprolol. So I can't say that its working in my case. I'm scheduled for a second opinion for an EP in a few weeks.
Don't know if this helps. Good luck!
I take metoprolol (aka lopressor) for PVC's and occasional SVT. It has been good for me....my PVC's are not gone, but they are not as "forceful" and therefore are easier to ignore.
The SVT is very infrequent for me in the first place, so I can't say that the metoprolol has had anything to do with the fact that I haven't had any for nearly 1.5 years, but I'm not going to stop the drugs to find out :-).
