Heart Bypass/Ablation

Heart Bypass/Ablation

Had bypass (5 arteries) and 3 weeks after discharge had ablation for atrial flutter. Since that time I have had dizziness/lightheadness problems throughout the day. Cardilogists think it might be my low blood pressure (avg 108/65)and suggested I increase my salt intake.ENT doctor could not find anything but gave me pill (clonazepam 0.5 MG/day) to help me sleep better and help balance. Only other medications are 40 MG Crestor and 500 MG Niaspan and Clarinex(occasionally). Also take 2000 IU Vid D3, Pomegranate pills, multivitamin, CoQ10, B-complex Vitamin, baby aspirin (162 MG/day) and salt talblets. Work out at Gym 5 days a week. Dizziness increases on 20 minute treadmill work out. Problem seems to abate in evening and no problems during the night.

You didn't mention your Heart Rates (HRs) - rest and working.

A lower BP can be compensated for by a higher HR.  If you have low BP and HR, then dizziness is very likely, I think.

Fun to read about a doctor recommending more salt.  Many of us wish that was one of our medications  :)

I assume you bypass and ablation were successful:  heat is getting plenty of blood/oxygen and the flutter is gone.  If that's the case the only other reason I can think of for dizziness is a low ejection efficiency (blood movement/volume) - has that been tested, usually (in my experience) by an echocardiogram.

On the low BP, I also believe many people who have an onset of lower BP find that the body compensates/adjusts and dizziness goes away.  In my case I take high dose beta blocker for high HR, and normal BP.  This caused my BP to drop and some dizziness - but over a period of months my BP came back to normal and the dizziness is mostly gone, still I never "jump" up from a seated position.  I get up slowly and even take a couple of slower than normal steps before coming up to speed.  I gave up "running" (10 minute miles) a couple of years ago, but I can walk a couple of miles and feel fine.
