Heart Fluttering?

I have a question that I hope that someone can answer.

Occasionally, My heart will start pounding, and it feels like it is up in my throat.  I can't catch my breath for a few seconds, and then it is gone.  Or I will have these times where I can "feel" my heart beating if that makes any sense, and it feels like it is beating out of rythum.  They only usually last a few seconds, but usually my breathing quickens also until it passes.

Has anyone else experienced this?  It is a little scary when it happens, and I don't know if I should go and see someone about it.

Thanks.

I have paroxysmal atrial fibrillation and your symptoms could be that. As others have said you need to be given a monitor which if you have on for a week will usually 'catch' any episodes of heart fluttering/palpitations and give an indication of what is causing them.
Hope you feel better soon. Take care and take it easy.

I have this all the time.  I have had so many test and they come back ok.  My last episode was a couple of day ago when my heart started pounding in the middle of my chest i had a rush of heat travel from my chest to my head then i went dizzy.  It lasted about 10 seconds.  Have just taken the holter monitor back today and not much happened while i had it on but just as i have been on this website i had the same pounding but no heat and dizziness.  It caught my breath a little.  I know how you feel it is so scary, especially when you know something isn't right but they can't find anything.  It is almost like you have to have a heart attack before anything can be done and then it might be too late.  Just keep on at them until you are satisfied that is what i am going to do.  My new GP says he doesn't think it has anything to do with blockages more electrical, whatever that means.  Good luck anyway.

I agree with Barbmag... you need to get it checked out... just to make sure that there is nothing wrong with your heart.  Just explain to the physician you see what is going on and ask about putting on a monitor to find out if they can catch the rhythm when it happens so you'll know what you're dealing with.  But, don't get discouraged if you don't catch the rhythm on the first monitor,... it took me several to really catch what they were looking for.

Yea, I bet the majority of us on this forum know exactly what you are talking about!! I do agree that anything of the norm for us is indeed scary, esp if we don't know what is going on. That is why I always think it best to have things checked out by a specialist and sooner rather than later. Do not put off anything pertaining to your health or the health of a loved one. My philosophy has always been, I would rather be safe than sorry so make that appt w/your doctor!! Then you won't have to wonder what the problem is or even if there is a problem in the first place!!
