Heart Pains

Hi, I am a 16 year old girl who has been having frequent heart pains for the past two years. I experience it quite often, about 3 - 4 times a week and it lasts from about 10 to 30 seconds. It's a really sharp pain that I feel, as if a needle is poking my heart, or as if my heart is tightening. I do admit, I don't have much of a healthy diet. My mom doesn't believe food that I eat now will affect me in the long run because I'm still young, so she doesn't take my heart condition seriously and thinks its nothing. I talked to my doctor twice about my heart problems a few months ago, but she said both times it was only heart spasms and that it was normal. Personally, because it happens so frequently, I feel like its something more serious and would like to get another opinion on my condition.

Hi, I am 14 and I have been having these types of pains for about 3 years now. My father is a Chiropractor and does his best to figure out what is causing them, but answers have been limited. However, from the little results we have found it doesn't seem like anything serious and we are hoping it will just pass. For the first two years, the pain was very rare and short. Lately, though, they occur every day. They don't seem to hurt as much as they used to but have lasted as long as 10 minutes. It really varies. My father has put me on various supplements which seem to help, but it's never been a real problem. I'm sure you have nothing to worry about. If you get a chance, though, I highly recommend you talk to a chiropractor about this. It seems to be more of a nerve thing which medical doctors tend to know less about.

I would talk to your mom again and let her know this is something that scares you and you would like to talk to your doctor again. Most likely it is muscular, but it wouldn't hurt for the doctor to check you out.

I have had something similiar since I was a teenager - I used to call it a baby heart attack. My pain was actually muscle spasms in the chest wall and they HURT! I have even had one so bad that it brought me to my knees. It can be a very sharp, stabbing pain.

I hope you feel better!
