Heart Palpitations

I am a 18 year old female and last night I started feeling my heart in my throat and noticed I could feel it more than usual. My grandma who is a registered nurse counted my beats per minute and it seemed a little off. Then it didn't go away so I had my mom who is a nurse practitioner listen to my heart beat and take my heart rate and she said it seemed normal. I had Diet Coke with dinner and it went away after I talked to my mom then I had some smores and it started up again. I went to bed and when I woke up its been happening again. all I have eaten today is a banana and water. My family has had a history of thyroid problems and I can't get in to see my primary. Anybody know what is going on with me?

It's good to get your thyroid checked but it could be simply related to your stomach.  Eating things like chocolate and even bananas can cause gas in the stomach which can irritate the vagus nerve and cause the heart to beat a bit faster or simply for us to feel our heart beating a bit faster.  It is good to go and get a check up but it very well isn't anything to be too concerned about.  Watch eating gas producing foods on an empty stomach.  Address any acid reflux and see if it helps. Take care.  Keep us posted on how you are doing.
