Heart Rhythm

I was diagnosed with mitral stenosis in 1964 at the age of 14. This was monitored until 2004 when my cardiologist decided to "fix" the problem. At this point it was discovered that I needed by-pass surgery and this was done in February 2004.

I now find that I have an irregular heart rhythm. When I feel my pulse, I can feel that the beat stops and then continues.
Is this normal and what can be done about it.

I am taking Tenormin (Atenolol) and Bayer Cardio aspirin.

What was done to "fix" the mitral stenosis?

Given that problem and the fact that you're joining the senior crowd it is very possible that you have developed Atrial Fibrillation (as I did/have).  AFib is a non-fatal heart rhythm problem that becomes more prevalent as one ages.  Mine may have been caused my a leaky mitral valve problem I had repaired in 2007.

The main concern, besides symptoms, of AFib is the formation of clots/strokes...the aspirin will help mitigate that problem, the next step is to take an anticoagulant, I take warfarin.

I am not saying you have AFib, but it is a possibility given the symptom you describe and other factors you have shared.  Talk with your cardiologist, if the AFib is full-time they can catch it on an EKG, if not you may have to wear a monitor for a day or more.
