Heart Rhythm with ASD and Flow Murmur

Been suffering with palpitations for about 2.5 years, have had echo, holter, 4 EKGs, two stays in the ER and seen by 2 cardiologist. All tests have come back negative or within normal varraints. Although I have had a IRBBB and short PR interval (no delta wave and normal qrs complex). I was born with an ASD which closed on its own and have a pulmonary flow murmur which is only heard by some doctors and nurses.

My question is with these issues are the long term risks for a cardiac event any greater? I also I am a 22 year old male and just had a cholestorl test with a total of 98!! (HDL 44, LDL, 48 and triglycerdies 30)

Hi Luke,

Thanks for the post.

If your ASD has closed and your heart sizes are structurally normal, I do not know of any studies to suggest that you are at significant increased future risk.  The question always comes up that people with a structurally normal heart and PVCs are at a slightly increased risk of future cardiac events.  This is not something I would worry about.  Live long and prosper.

Regarding the flow murmur, if your echo is normal this isn't something to worry about.  Many people have flow murmurs.

Take care.
