We had an ultrasound done at around 19 weeks. I noticed that the technician kept taking pics of his heart. I am a nurse and I try to keep that turned off when it comes to my own care (or my babys). But, I noted the heart chambers on the u/s screen and they looked good to me. All the chambers were present along with the valvesHeart valves Heart valves - anterior view Heart valves - superior view. Per the tech, his heartbeatHeart palpitations Ultrasound, normal fetus - heartbeat Ultrasound, ventricular septal defect - heartbeat was strong. So I asked the tech if anything was wrong, she stated he was really moving around in there, but nothing seemed out of the norm. One week later, we went to our regularRegular insulin ob appt and basically he said something was out of whack with the babys heart chambers. He was very vague and made the statement that hes's "not a cardiology speacialist". We have a consult appt in two weeks, should I be worried? What conditions can cause this chamber irregularity?
Seeing as you don't know what the chamber abnormality is, it would be pretty hard for anyone else to guess at it, either.
We had a similar scare with our son, and that's all it turned out to be - a scare.
The tech lingered over our son's heart for the longest time, took images, showed them to a more senior tech, then they both took them to the doctor, who ordered more images be taken.
I don't recall exactly what they said the problem was, but it was something that they said could go away as he grew in mom's tummy, and that's just what it did. The problem went away. Our son is nearing his second birthday, eats like a horseHorse chestnut, is strong as an ox and has never had any kind of heart-related issue.
While I know it will be nearly impossible not to worry, save the worry for when you get the results of the test, not before they know whether there is even something wrong.

Wishing mom and baby good health.
