Help

The other night I was given 50 mg Lopressor, plavix, and lovenox, as I thought and the hospital thought I was having a cardiac event.  I already take 25 mg atenolol.  I wasn't having event, but non-specific chest pain.  That was Monday night.  Now I wake up with my heart racing and blood pressure rising.  I also wake up exhausted.  I think this is from coming off of the Lopressor.  I called my MD and they said just go back to regular dose of atenolol.  Does anyone know how long I will feel like this coming off Lopressor or will I have to go on this med from now on?  Thank you.

Lovenox and Plavix are both anticoagulants (antiplatelets). These reduce the chance of clot formation which can result in stroke. This is typical treatment when patients present to the ER with symptoms of chest pain. This is not likely to be causing you your current problem.

Your anxiety could most definitely be impacting your heart rate as well as your BP. You should try to relax and see if your symptoms resolve. I too, hope that you are feeling better:)

Thank you for the input.  I took Lopressor Monday night, around 2 am in morning.  Perhaps this should have been out of system already?  I wonder if Lovenox or Plavix could have something to do with this?  I woke up three times last night.  HR was usually around lower to mid 90's.  BP is 147/78.  But I feel anxious.  This stuff is awful to come off of.  Hopefully, I won't have to see doc.  I hope I feel better soon.  Any other ideas?  Thank you for the input.

If you are already taking a Betablocker and only received one 50mg dose of Lopressor in the ER, I don't think this should be problematic. This drug has a half life of 3-7 hours. Half life of a drug is the time it takes for 50% of the drug to be excreted by the body.

Based on a 50mg dose there would be 3-4 half lives to excrete the drug. Max time of a little over 28 hours to have it completely gone from your system. If your symptoms continue, especially increased BP, you should give your Dr a call.

Hope this resolves for you:)

Yes.  I stopped abruptly.  They just gave me one 50 mg dose in the ER.  I called my cardiologist and they said to just go back on atenolol regular dose, 25 mg once per day.  I hope this stuff gets out of my system quickly.  What should I do?

Hello...

When you say you were coming off Lopressor, did you just stop taking it abruptly?
