High Heart Rate While Exercising

High Heart Rate While Exercising

Hello!
I am 23 years old and was diagnosed with PVC's at 19 with a 48 hour holter monitor and had a normal Echo at the time as well. Never much of a heavy exerciser, I usually stick to yoga, pilates, or light eliptical work. Lately I have been trying to lose some weight and started a running regime. Now, I would consider myself in ok shape for my age, but after 2 mins of a running interval my heart rate reads at 185-190! This really scares me, and has happened everytime I take my heart rate while doing heavy exercise. My heart rate goes back down pretty rapidly which suggests ok cardiovasular health, so I find myself confused as to the cause. Help!
PS these HRs are accurate, not a simple matter of a misread by a machine.
Thanks!

depends on what kind of shape you're in really, the high HR could be due to being out of shape for running.  If you're not going to a dr anytime soon try this - interval train walking with running and work your way up each week and see if that stops the HR's.  You should slowly work into anything different to give your heart & body time to adjust.

google interval training and you'll find some useful info =)
for example:
warm up - 5 minutes walking at a slow pace
walk at a moderate pace for 2-3 minutes
jog at a lower pace for 2-3 minutes
walk at a moderate pace for 2-3 minutes
jog at a higher pace for 2-3 minutes
walk at a lower pace for 2-3 minutes

repeat the process each time for the first week then go from say jogging at 3.5mph to 3.7 the next week until your body has time to adjust to the new routine....when you're not out of breath or HR not so high, then add time and pace to each; it helps also where lactic acid doesn't build up

hopefully someone else knows; I haven't done minimum & max exercise heart rates for a couple of years, but I think your heart rate is 220-age times 0.65 - 0.85... 220 - 23= 197   so 197 x 0.65= 128 197 x 0.85=167   128-167 hr  or something similar

if your hr's continue to be high back down to simple exercises such as walking or yoga and get checked out by a cardiologist just to be safe

That HR may be where you live.

Try Lisa's suggestion.

If it responds to ebb and flow of exertion in a linear fashion AND YOUR DOCTOR HAS CLEARED YOU FOR EXERCISE... don't use HR as an excuse to be lazy.
