High Heart Rate at Begin of Run

Hi - I have noticed that my heart rate on my HR monitor at the beginning of my runs rises quite rapidly and up to spikes of 180 to 190 . . . but after about 1.5 miles of easy running . . .it goes back down.  For example, during my morning run this morning, I had a high HR of 194, but the average for the entire run was but 114 . . . It was an easy recovery run for me.  This spike in HR did not happen when I first re-started my running program 2 years ago, but has happened now that I am very fit again.  I am 46 and will be running the Boston Marathon this Spring and I regularly win my age group in competitive runs.  But this early spiking of my HR during the warm-up phase, does give me pause . . . should I be worried, or is this normal for a highly trained athelete? Good luck with your training and competition in Boston.

I bet no one on this Community/Forum has enough running experience to give you advice.  I never ran more than 3 miles myself.

Still, and notwithstanding your vast experience, I can say I always (or did before stopping a couple of years ago) feel like I'd never make it to 3 miles during the first 1/2 mile, then I started feeling better.  I don't recall any spiking in the early HR, but I do recall a feeling resistance to running until I got warmed up.
