Holter Monitor Results

Hi all,

I'm a 31 (almost 32) year old male, roughly 165-170 lbs, and 5'8. I'm not in the greatest shape but I'm not out of shape either. I went to the doctor because I was having what felt like a quick second or two heart flutter followed by feeling of loss of breath. This is a very random and quick 1-2 second long feeling and then gone.

My doctor had me wear a holter monitor and basically said there was nothing wrong but he would refer me to a cardiologist if I wanted him to. Based on the results, would it be worthwhile to have further tests done?

Here are the results:

Total QRS Complexes:      92056
Ventricular Ectopics:         273  ( <1% )
Supraventricular Extopics: 154 ( =120 bpm for 00:03:06
rate =2.0 seconds)

Ventricular Events:
Isolateds: 217
In Bigeminal cycles: 0
Couplets: 20
Runs: 5
Longest: 4 beats, 120 bpm at 04:37pm
Fastest:  3 beats, 171 bpm at 04:29pm
slowest: 3 beats,    73 bpm at 02:56pm

Supraventricular Events:
Isolateds: 15
Couplets: 12
Runs:10
Longest: 41 beats, 94bpm at 12:22pm
Fastest: 6 beats, 101 bpm at 10:40am
Slowest: 4 beats, 90 bpm at 9:16pm

St Events:
0 for ST depressions and ST elevations in all channels.

Thanks!

Josh

Your results sound pretty good - a few PVC's and PAC's, at most 4 in a row and the rate is quick but not enough to make you pass out.

Have you had an echo done to see if your heart is structurally normal? If it is, then those few ectopics throughout the day won't hurt you. You'll notice them but there's no harm done.

So does this read that he had 273 pvc's?  Just wondering.

It says 273 ventricular ectopics, less than 1% of his total beats for the day. Looks like there were 217 singles and a few couplets. Then there were the PAC's. That's what I'm reading.

Thanks-
I was just wondering because I had about the same amount in 24 hours.  (278)
It felt like so many more than that.
So jbob098, my doctor said the same as yours.  Nothing to worry about.

I think that having that detailed a report is pretty awesome.

Avg heart rate was 63bpm.  Pretty darn good.  I believe they report the # of ectopics as a percent because I think there are tables or some such thing that once you hit a certain number of PVC beats as a percent of total beats, some form of treatment is recommended.

And you are waaay below the threshold for requiring any form of treatment.

If you want further tests for peace of mind, certainly have them done.  Otherwise, stay out of the way of fast-moving buses and you'll live to a ripe old age.
