I agree this is exactly how vipassana works, letting go and accepting. being equanimity. vipassana will do wonders on the brain, oprah did a case study on it where prisoners who had done awful things in their lives learn how to find peace on what they have done. vipassana is a great course, i did one 3 yrs ago, but the day to day rat race has taken over and transformed me into a human battery and thus my panic attacks are back. im hoping to do another 10day retreat soon to finally get balance into my life again
I practice Jnana Yoga as taught by Nisargadatta Maharaj in the book "I AM THAT",
but it's basically the same as vipassana.
Working on the mind is a lifetime process.
You're basically cleaning dirt of a dirty windows.
Sometimes a lot of stains will go off easily and fast,
while other times there might be some stains that go off after some time.
The guy nisargadata maharaj claims he cleaned all his "impurities of mind" in only 3 years. So quick progress can and does happen to many people.
I am so glad you brought up this book and thank you for posting it here. It's so comforting and helpful.
Are you practicing Vipassana? I did a 10 day retreat last year, I practice daily, but still need additional reinforcements in learning how to let go of the fear. I did notice the parallels Hope and Help makes to buddhist ideas, but I really like that the book directly addresses arrhythmia and anxiety. For those who are turned off by ideas of buddhism or any other philosophy, be sure that this book is not buddhist or anything other than a straight forward solution to dealing with fear and anxiety.
Take care no_fate.
I have recommended the book here recently so it could have been me ...
I haven't read much self help books but "Hope and help" is a really good one indeed.
Claire weekes recommends to "let go",
this is the exact same method used in meditation such as in Vipassana.
There's a free book out there on vipassana meditation called "Mindfulness in plain english".
I have read hundreds of anxiety self-help books, but this simple little book goes to the "heart" of what we all feel during palpitations and anxiety related to arrhythmia and how to cope. It is very simplistic in its explanations but very much in tune with the fear/anxious feelings and how to address them. Each page has me captivated.
Jodie, thanks for the recommendation of her other book too. I think you're the one who mentioned the "Hope and Help" right? If so, it's great and thanks!
Now putting the advice into action to release the fear is the challenging part but I look forward to practicing it.
My favorite book in the whole world. I bought it 20 years ago and it is still in my drawer. I also recommended Peace From Nervous Suffering by Dr. Weeks too. I'm glad you have had the same luck that I had from those books.
Jodie
Hi TatiCD and CFS1, Thanks for posting about the book, I haven't read it yet but I've heard a lot of good feedback.
I agree, it is a wonderful book. I bought it at the suggestion of someone on this board but I have no idea who it was. It has really helped me a lot and I highly recommend it to anybody.
