ICD

I recently had my third cardiac pacemaker defribulator replaced.  One of the problems I have experienced is premature battery failure.  A specialist that completed the surgury is suggesting that we drop the rithym from 80 p/m to 60 p/m to try to enhance battery life.  He is also suggesting that we turn off one of the leads, also for battery life enhancement.  I was diagnosed with heart failure in 2002.  So far my Echo cardiograms have shown no decline or increase since the original diagnosis.  Because I have maintained the same level for this number of years, I am apprehensive about making the changes he has suggested. (If it aint broke, don't fix it).  Would it be better to maintain things as they were taking the risks of replacement implantations at a shorter duration, then to make the changes in support of a longer life span for the CLD?

Did you also receive many therapy shocks? This can reduce the life too. I was told that mine will last 6 years. I'm paced at 70. I only have 2 leads. Do you have a CRT device with 3 leads?

I can see why you don't want to change things. What does your doctor think about changing your ICD functions? Maybe get him to explain the differences the specialist suggested to you so that you can make a better informed decision.

Glad to hear that your heart condition has remained the same. This is good!

Good luck
