Insomnia and nighttime arrythmia

Hi there,

I have suffered chronic insomnia for the last 3 years.  I wake many times during the night feeling my heart pounding.   I was lucky enough to have a sleep study done a few months ago.  When looking at the data I noticed my heartrate spiked to 145bpm about 4 times during the night.  Could anyone tell me if this is normal and should I follow this up?

Thanks,
Sara

It is best your doctor who ran the sleep study give you an evaluation of the result.

I understand that if we have a dream that excites us our heart responds just as it would if we were awake.  So, I don't see anything particularly worrisome in a short term (time duration) HR of 145.
