Insurance and mini-maze

My insurance company  ,CIGNA, is refusing to fund a mini-maze procedure for my Afib even though I meet all the criteria medically to have this procedure done. They are claiming that it is experimental even though my family doctor, my cardiolgist and a surgeon have all recommended this procedure. . Can anyone ID for me other insurance companies who have paid for this procedure besides Medicare, Medicaid ane Blue Cross Anthem? This information would be helpful in my appeal process.

I think possibly for you to get your answer i would contact the medical facility or surgeon that you want to handle the procedure and ask them which insurance companies that they have seen that have paid for this medical procedure because that will cut out alot of time.  The other thing you need to make sure of is that if you are going to have any procedure done and you have a "pre-existing" illness make 100% for sure that the insurance company will be willing to take you on because in my experience when i had a pre existing illness i was refused coverage .......unless.......you can manage to get on a company group plan and then i believe you are accepted...good luck and hope that was helpful.....and again if your insurance company says that the mini maze procedure is still in the experimental stages i am sure that most of the insurance companies are going to go by that criteria....i have never had one...i had the regular ablation done and know there were no issues...
