Intense PVC symptoms? Anything else I can do?

by Dragonwriter1, Sep 26, 2009 07:04PM
I am 18. For the past few months I have been having what a cardioligist told me are PVC's. Along with those I get an awful over-all sick feeling, my whole body feels like jello, I have trouble swallowing, I can't think, and I get dizzy. At times I also get a kind of stabbing sensation around my shoulder blades, tight feeling in my chest, and kind of an over-all burning feeling in my chest. My heart-beat goes off every night (often keeps me awake) and different times through out the day, going on any where from 1 minute to 3-6 hours. When they are going on I feel it up into my throut. I often fell my pulse as they are going on and after each intense sensation there will be a skip, the next one is from 1 to a few beats later usually. Quite often the bad ones are just continuous.

I have had an EKG, something like and ultra-sound of my heart and a couple of other things done. The cardioligist said to try a haulter moniter but I don't have the money right now. Everyone hears my age, looks, at me, and practically discounts anything I say. But this is all really bothering me. Any advise or ideas?

Has your cardiologist prescribed any medication help?  The monitor will only help confirm what is going on, it will not stop the PVCs.  I'm not sure, but I think beta blockers are often prescribed, and I think the generic Metoprolol isn't extremely expensive, not sure on that point.

I sounds to me like some help to reduce severity of symptoms should be prescribed.

The good news/bad news is most PVCs are benign, but they are hard to cure.

I'm posting mostly to get the subject rolling if possible.  I suffer from atrial fibrillation, not PVC, so you symptoms are not anything I can directly relate too, and I am thankful for that.

It's sounds to me like you might be having panic attacks. I had them when I was your age, and they can be horrible - you feel like you are going to die. But you won't! In addition to your cardiologist, you might want to have a good talk with a general practitioner. He/she might be able to point you in the right direction. Don't give up, you'll get better!

When I get PVC runs I drink an 8oz glass of low sodium V-8. It really helps.

My 25 year old daughter went to the ER with what she thought was a panic attack.  It turned out to be continuous PVCs.  She is "throwing" 30,000 a day.  They tried her on 50 mg a day of beta blockers and then increased the dose last week to 100 mg.  She has had little or no relief.  Today the cardiologist told her that they want her to have an ablation as soon as it can be scheduled but no later than 3 weeks from now.  She said she feels tired all of the time, can feel her heart in her throat and gets very dizzy.  The doctor told her she can't imagine how she is still attending law school.  If you get worse, please go get help immediately!  I think that my daughter's "panic attack" probably saved her life.  Good Luck!
