Irregular heart after stopping beta blocker

by rockthekazbar, Oct 09, 2008 01:30PM
Hi I am a 38 year old woman, who has high blood pressure for around 3 years, in the past 18 months I have been having other problems, restless legs, reynauds, headaches, mild fevers, mild tremors some times and started having bad acid problems. I am currently on Somac for the acid, a beta blocker and calcium blocker for blood pressure. Blood test have been done and my esr, ana,crp and plasma free meteradrenaline are up, but in the low range of high. The next problem is the doc took me off the beta blocker because it was making my reynaud's play up, but when this happened my blood pressure went up and I started getting irregular and fast heart rate and what I thought was strange I was getting like a bad stitch on my right side.  So he has now put me back on the beta blocker for now, and ordered a holter for me to wear for 48 hours, when this happens he wants me to stop the beta blocker again, starting to feel lika a yo yo, what is the holter going to really show and how does this fit in with the other problems I am having. Just one thing to add I was a smoker but stopped in May this year have seen no difference with my health thus far  THANKS.

Your doctor is looking to see what your heart rhythm is when it is when you are having syptoms (symptoms).  I cannot not explain why your systemic inflammatory markers are elevated.  Rheumatologists are usually the best people to look into issues like that.  If your blood pressure and heart heart rate are elevated, a calcium channel blocker is probably a good place to start.  The calcium channel will decrease heart rate and blood pressure and may help decrease the reynauds.
