Irregular heartbeat in a 10 week old girl

Irregular heartbeat in a 10 week old girl

Hi
can anybody advise. My 10 week old grandaughter stopped breathing yesterday (only for a short time) She was admitted to hospital and they have discovered an irreguar heartbeat. Tests will be conducted over the weekend. I am quite worried about this and want to know whether she will need surgery or can this be controlled with drugs. Will she grow out of it? She is in germany so I am getting sketchy information.
thanks

Usually irregular heartbeats are controlled with drugs. If there are structural problems, than surgery is sometimes preformed. Sometimes the surgeries aren't done until a year or more time has passed. You asked if she will outgrow this. It totally depends on the cause of the problem. If the heart beat is too slow, they can put a pacemaker in and she'll be good to go for many years; some pacemakers also control faster heart beats. It just depends on a lot of things; the problem with your question is that you don't know enough about what's going on yet. Write back when you get more info and we'll try and help you to understand better, what's going on.
