Irregular heartbeat

I am a 21 year old pretty healthy male. About twice a week ill get random irregular heartbreats. Its sort of like a fluttering feeling where it feels like my heart speeds up for 4-5 seconds then it returns to normal. If I drink pop with caffeine in it sometimes my heart pounds so hard i cant sleep...since then ive obviously switched to non caffeine pops.

My mother has a heart murmor? I think that means an irregular heartbeat?

Anyway this has been going on for like a year now. Should I be concerned about this? I went in to the docs once for it and they clamped a bunch of things on me and told me my heart looked normal...but I could go get this tracker thing from the hospital to wear for a few days if i wanted. I never did....

So is this anything to be worried about??

Not really. Some people are just more aware of their hearts than others. Some hearts skip more than others. It should become a concern if this skipping starts happening very often, like several times daily. If it bothers you, you should probably take out a monitor from the hospital if it starts happening more than five times a week. A heart murmur refers to the valves of the heart not closing perfectly, which is, for the most part, benign. You could get an echo to check that out, but if it's going to cost you I wouldn't do it (not particularly necessary). As for the caffeine, it's a good idea to steer clear of it anyway, but if it does that to you, again, you've got the right idea--just avoid it.
