Is it possible to HEAR a murmur?

Is it possible to HEAR a murmur?

Hi

Like a million others, I was dx'd with MVP years ago, but have been skipping my echos. I also have continuous trigeminal PVC's if that matters.  When I lie on my left side at rest, am I really hearing my heart " click" ?  something in there is clicking and in between lub dubs i'm telling you I hear "click" clear as day, sometimes click click.  Is it time for another echo?
thanks!

I know a trained ear, doctor, can often hear a murmur, guess that's were the name came from. I have also heard some sounds described as a "click" related to valve anomalies.

Not much help, just offering the little I have, and looking with interest on additional inputs.

Murmurs are rated according to severity. I know some of the worst can be heard by another person without a stethoscope. Since you're lying down in a quiet room and it's in your own body, it might be easier to hear your own murmur.

I have always thought that murmurs could be heard only with a stethoscope, or by a heart machine like during an echo.

When  was your last echo? If it has been over 2 years, my advise would be yes, especially if you are having new or concerning symptoms.

It is absolutely possible to hear a murmur without a stethoscope.  If it wasn't audible before and now it is, get it checked out.  You don't want to wait until you sound like a washing machine to look into it.  Jerry is right in that a click is generally more specific to valve probs.  The mechanical valves certainly go click with every beat.  You would have mentioned though if yours was a mechanical valve.  It might sound different through a stethoscope.  Take care of it through a cardiologist instead of worrying yourself about it at home.
