Is this just being out of shape?

Is it normal if your out of shape for your heart rate to get up to around 180 really quickly?  Because i took the trash can around to the back of my house, which is up a slight hill.  Takes about a minute.  By the time I made it up I was feeling a little winded and my heart rate was up to 180.  Checked less than a minute later and my heart rate was down to 112 and about 5 minutes later I sat down and it was around 90.  My resting heart rate is usually in the high 60's low 70's when I'm really tired laying in bed at night.  I've had a cardiac workup, including holter and 4 ekg's, bloodtests, stuff like that.

Just wanted to update my situation a bit.  For some reason yesterday I got it in my head that my heart was fine and it was only speeding up because of my anxiety about it.

So I tried walking up the stairs  - Heart rate 128bpm
Ran up the stairs - heart rate 130's
ran down and back up finally got it to 150bpm

I kept telling myself the whole time my heart is normal and its going to do what it should do.  now normally just walking up slowly would bring my heart rate up to 180bpm!!  I'm assuming this is all anxiety then?

Today I can walk up the stairs and my heart rate is about 120bpm and standing up or slow walking my heart rate is between 90-110bpm.

If I had pots or innapropriate tachycardia would it have episodes where it wouldnt effect me?  Because I feel great all of the sudden, like a switch flipped and my heart is acting normal again!

2 things that I changed the past 2 days is i took a really hot bath yesterday and today which I never do and I drank about double the water I normally drink.

I just stood up and it went from 92 to 109, that sounds pretty normal doesen't it?

now it seems all I need to do is to stop checking my pulse every 10 min.

thanks again

That's a good idea....just keep reducing the number of times until you hit 1 to 2 times.  Maybe do that for a few days, and then try every other day, etc.  Glad to hear the prozac is helping.  I really believe that you will get past this and that it is just a temporary bump in the road.  Hang in there and stop by for support and/or encouragement any time.

I'm on prozac and it is helping, but I have this obsession about it still.  like sometimes when I just stand up it goes to 130bpm.  But im so stressed about it being high too.  Im trying to stop though, like giving myself only 10 times a day that I can check it and then decreasing it to 9 and so on.  but its hard.  I just worry about it being so high

Sorry that the anxiety has you so sedentary.  I'm glad to hear that you are beginning to get back out....Fresh air is great for the soul!!

Besides, you should be playing the drums and enjoying great music!!  Has the doctor prescribed anything for the anxiety?  If so, is it helping?  One step at a time and soon you'l be feeling better.

A good tip - forget about checking your pulse.  It is a very hard habit to break once you start, but welllll worth it.  Give it a try for the weekend and see how you do.  When you think of checking your pulse, bang the drums instead.

take care

No I don't exercise and that is the closest i've came to exercising in the last 6 months, i've been pretty much bed ridden since february.  I've had an ekg when my heart rate was at 180+ less than a month ago and everything was fine, it was just fast.

So being out of shape could send my heart rate climbing really fast?  I also have anxiety about this too so i'm sure that adds to it.  climbing a set of stairs my heart rate is usually 130-150.  Normal walking it is around 100-110.  During the day when i'm sitting down my heart rate is normally in the 80's but at night if i'm really relaxed it can go into the 60's.

And yes it did recover fast, nearly immediately dropped from 180-150 when I came inside and within 30 seconds or so it was down to 112.

the reason i'm asking this here is that i cannot go back to the ER or my Doctor unless it is absolutely very serious.  I have no insurance and have recently been thinking about bankruptcy to pay for thousands of dollars in medical bills.

Have you had a stress test to see what your heart does when you're exercising?  I've been told our HR's can climb quickly when we are deconditioned, but I'd want to be sure that was the reason.  Do you exercise?  The fact that your HR recovered quickly is good : )
