Is this part of Short Qt Syndrome?

My son has had his defibrillator set to fire only if his bpm gets to 220.  Christmas Eve, he was with friends, drinking and goofing around and he tried to run a race while carrying around 75 pounds.  Within seconds, his defibrillator fired, which ended his goofing around.  He hasn't checked yet but I'm betting he was in normal sinus rhythm, like he always has been with the exception of when he actually suffered an scd from v-fib.  Is it normal to be able to get your heart rate so high so  quickly when it is normally extremely low?  Does anyone know if this is part of short qt syndrome?  I know my bpm shows 190-200 a lot on my polar when running and when my defibrillator was set lower, it fired and my bpm was at 178 in normal sinus rhythm and I'm told at my age I should't be able to breathe at that rate but I was just fine, just like he was the other night.

I suppose if we find it was a bad rhythm, we'll need to take him back to Mayo and see if they can repeat this to find where the misfire is and maybe ablate it but I really don't think it was.

As is, he's 26 and wasn't concerned that he got zapped, was more concerned on the cost of having his device interrogated because he hasn't met his deduct for this year.  He just went in for his normal appt last week and they asked him if he knew he'd been shocked and he said yes.  His hr got up to 226 and one shock knocked it down to 175 and then he dropped rapidly from there.  They mentioned atrial fibrillation.  When he wears a monitor and attempts to jog, he gets up to 180-190 easily in normal sinus rythm and this was the first time he'd been shocked since having his device bumped up to 220.  Mayo thought he might be getting shocked because of oversensing prior to this.  Thanks for the input.

I think that T wave oversensing is common with short qt. It might have just been double counting his t waves so a heart rate of 140 could have been detected as 280.
If you have a remote monitor, you should probably send in a transmission as soon as you can.
Take care,
