Jeez!

Has anyone ever developed side effects from a medication they've been on for a long time? I've been on the lowest dose of metoprolol tartrate (25 mg BID) for years, but in the last few months I've been getting unsteady on my feet, dizziness upon standing and actually have to hold onto things to walk or stand in one place. This always happens 2 to 4 hours after taking a dose and mostly disappears when I wake up in the morning. I take my morning dose at 7:30 and by 10 or so it's back. As I said I've been on it for over 2 years and this started a couple of months ago, also bring on the lowest dose I don't know if it has anything to do with it but the timing is the same every day. Oh yeah, it happens when I stand but my pulse doesn't race or anything.

I take it for PSVT, PVCs and PACs. I did bring it to the attention of my PCP, he seems to think it may be because my thyroid is off (I'm post thyca 10 years TT. ) he also thinks stress my be effecting it. I'm under undue stress as of late since my 81 yo father with dementia has moved in with me. I just thought because of the timing it may be due to the metoprolol. I am seeing my EP on the 25th so I guess I'll just wait and check it out with him. Meanwhile I'll just keep holding onto the walls. Lol

I am not a doctor and do not know fully why you are taking the meds but any blood pressure meds taken for reasons other than high blood pressure I would assume still affects the blood pressure.  Even at low doses I suspect that if you are in a phase of lower than normal blood pressure in general the added meds may be making it a bit too low.   I do not take meds but I go through phases myself where my blood pressure is lower than at other times and I notice dips upon standing.  Since I have normally low bp I tend to not worry so much about my sodium intact.  I would consult with the doctor about your symptoms as you described and see what they have to say and find out if adding sodium may help if you have normal to low bp without the meds.  Regardless, these symptoms should be brought to the attention of the prescribing doctor.  Take care.
