MHR and Working Out

I recently purchased a heart rate monitor for running.  I'm 27 and an avid runner.  I put on about 20 miles/week on average.  I say this just as a background to my question.  Since I've purchased the monitor I've of course been keeping track of my heart rate. As I sit here I'm at 96, I've always had a high RHR.  I ran 7 miles today at an average pace of 8:30.  My AVERAGE heart rate was 182!!!!, which is approximately 92% of my max, I kept that up for 55 mintues!  Is this normal?  And, it literally reached average 182 within 5 minutes of starting the run?  Its all just confusing.

Heart rates (during rest and exercise) are very different in different people. Hearts are like engines, some of them just need a little higher BPM (and are able to handle it) some of them don't. I once did a stress EKG test and when the dr stopped me, my heart rate was between 200 and 210, and i didn't notice anything unusual (could have kept going). My resting HR is a bit high as well, somewhere between 60 and 90.

As long as you don't feel symptoms (dizziness, SOB, fainting) it's a sign your heart works as it should, and probably not a problem. You should tell your doctor, though, and get a professional opinion.

By the way, your resting heart rate should not be measured while being a bit anxious and writing questions here. That is not your real resting heart rate.

you're best doing a treadmill test by a doctor, athletic people will usually have a slower hr such as 60 some even lower likeou 45, your resting pulse shld be around 60-100 anything over100 needs looking at
