I believe that most people who are diagnosed with MVP are considered to not have a serious problem, and may not require any treatment, including medications. If MVP is accompanied with other problems such as Atrial Fibrillation/Flutter or Ventricle problems then we usually see some treatment required, ranging from medication, to electric shock (electrocardio version) to Ablation... to open heart surgery to repair the valve. I had suffered from Mitral Valve Leakage (may be a some prolapse is as serious as my case) and I underwent open heart surgery to repair the Mitral Valve.
