Metoprolol wearing off or just coinsidence?

Metoprolol wearing off or just coinsidence?

Hey guys just wanted to ask the forum what you guys feel with metoprolol about two hours before your next dose (around 12 hours apart; I do 12 hours personally but we are told to take it whenever we want with a good gap in-between). I was also told the medicine is stored in you if it is necessary to stop medication for a day for another health procedure; which is strange. Every time I reach the end of my dose my heart acts up, I can feel PVCs/PACs, irregular heartbeat, tachycardia and just my heart going crazy. My body is probably use to it by now and dependent which is why we are suppose to wean off these things but I was wondering if anyone else feeling these symptoms at the end of a dose? The obvious answer for me is to just take my medication when I feel this which I do or take it earlier but my main concern is the severity of these symptoms, I would think there would be just a little bit of medicine left to hold my heart stable for a bit until the next dose kicks in but sometimes it makes me scared that it acts this way already with the dose wearing off.

I agree w. Debbier....we were on the same meds and i did the switch about three years ago and it worked for me.  The main thing with any beta blocker is that in order for it to do its job is has to "block" the electrical impulses that are trying to break thru and start up the episodes of PVC's and PACS....one thing for absolutely sure that i found that works is to take my med at exactly the same time each day and if you are getting breakthroughs at the end of the doses you may want to call the doc and let him/her know so that they can either make an adjustment on your meds or switch you out.  Be very very careful tho and don't ask for trouble because if you suddenly stop your heart meds instead of weaning off of them you are asking for a world of hurt with re bounds which makes your symtoms (symptoms) increase times four.  Happy Easter Questionnone

Thanks you guys. I will ask my electrophysiologist about Atenolol. I have actually read some good stories about those who switch from Toprolol to Atenolol with good success but I also read some scary stories about how Atenolol gave more of the bad side effects of a beta blocker. It doesn't hurt to try however so I will remember to ask. Did you have to be on the same dose from Toprol to Atenolol? Tell me more about it if there is more things I would find interesting about Atenolol :)

I went from 25mgs of Toprol to 25mgs Atentolol.  Toprol did not work for me, I did not feel great on it.  Atenolol I have had no side effects and feel good on it.
