Metropolol effects

My 82 y/o mother was diagnosed with Atrial Fibrillation in1/08.  An Echocardiogram showed 2 moderately leaking heart valves.  Her cardiologist told her these could be managed medically.
She was started on Metropolol 50 mg, BID, and Diltiazem.  The Diltiazem was d/ced after about 2
weeks, because she reported anxiety (which was new for her).  She was told to resume her previous meds for High BP, in addition to the metropolol.
Here is my question:  My mother has had an intermittent "Shaky" sensation ever since she was started on the new medication.  Initially we thought they were related to the palpitations she still experiences occasionally.  But the "Shaky" feeling occurs even without feeling heart fluttering.
Can this "Shaky" sensation be a result of the Metropolol?
I would appreciate any feedback, since this is affecting my mother's quality of life.  These unexpected feelings of being "Shaky" prevent her from returning to her previous level of functioning.
She was very active before being hospitalized in 1/08, i.e. driving, shopping, cooking, baking, walking 2 miles/day.
Thank you.
Janet

I have not heard this as a symptom of metoprolol.  There is another beta blocker called propranolol that is sometimes used to treat tremors.  It might be worth trying propranolol to see if it helps control her heart rates and decreases her tremors.

I hope this helps.
