My PVC's

My PVC's

Hello I have been reading this section of the Medhelp website for a while now and just decided I might as well join all of you since you seem to have the same problem as me.  I have had pvc's now for about 12 weeks.  I've worn a halter monitor twice, had a stress echo done, and have had more blood drawn in the last 3 months than in all my life.  My cardiologist put me on Cardizem and nothing changed.  I've been taking Metopolol now for a week and nothing yet.  My last halter counted over 9,000 pvc's in a 24 hour period.  Mostly bigemmeny while at rest.  I'm seriously thinking about ablation.  I'm tired of it and the meds. are messing with my body.  I'm otherwise healthy at 35 and am having a hard time finding reasons not to just get it done.  Any thoughts?

Has your doctor said he/she will do an ablation?  Most of the cardios I've come across are not eager to have patients undergo ablations unless they are necessary.  However, if you are very symptomatic, you may very well be a good candidate.

I've had two ablations for frequent pvcs and they were very both successful.  Prior to the procedures, I had over 20,000 pvcs/day.  Same as you, mostly bigeminy, but some singles, couplets and runs. When my ejection fraction dropped, my doctor was more inclined to put me on anti-arrythmics or to have me undergo an ablation, or how every many it took.  In my case, the pvcs caused cardiomyopathy.  I also have mitral regurgitation, so she was more aggressive with treatment.  Today, I hardly every get pvcs or runs. Have you seen an electrophysiologist?  He/she may recommend an EPS?  Do you know if you are unifocal, or multifocal?  I was multi-focal, but there were only a couple predominant "hot spots."  Good luck!!  Let us know what you decide.

I'm just wondering how you became aware of your PVCs? Do you have symptoms with them? I have frequent PVCs in my left ventricle, sometimes amounting to around 25000 a day. These are mostly bigeminy and like yours, occur at rest. I feel dizzy and lightheaded with them. I will be having an ablation in the next month and will let you know how it goes.

I take it your heart is normal..........stress echo etc?  I am wondering why you would want an ablation?

I tend to agree with ajrenalli.  I am not sure your cardiologist will put you through an ablation for pvcs unless you are extremely symptomatic.  Or, unless they are causing a medical problem. Keep us posted.

lol7,

Good luck with the upcoming ablation.
