For the past few months I've been feeling tired, fatigued, short of breath..etc. I've been having irregular heartbeats every once and a while, slight chest pains, and my resting heart rate is pretty high. (usually around 95-100) It hasn't been anything too severe but enough to wear me out. I haven't gone to a doctor because I don't think he's gonna find anything really, because I have non-specific symptoms and I don't wanna bother my parents with taking me to 1000 different doctors to find out what's wrong. (I'm 15 btw) Anyways, I've just been dealing with this as best as I can. I have my good days and my bad ones. On Monday was one of the worst days I've had. I got up around 11:30am and literally stayed on the couch all day. I was just so exhausted. Every time I'd get up I'd get out of breath just by walking 6 feet. Every time I'd stand up everything would go black. This has happened before but it's been getting worse. It's every time I stand up and it's so much so that I have to hold on to something so I don't fall over and it's been lasting longer too. I also get this annoying ringing in my ears when this happens too. Yesterday I stood up everything went black and my lips went numb and tingly and I felt like I was gonna pass out. So my symptoms are progressively getting worse. I've been feeling more and worsening chest pain. I'm also getting weird headaches I've never had before. I'll get them on only one half of my head, towards the side and behind my eyes. It'll hurt really bad for a couple of minutes but goes away and then will return on the other side an hour or two later. It's always on one half though never both at the same time.
So does anyone know what's happening??
I don't have stress or anxiety either..It's summer vacation..so I'm pretty relaxed. xD
Any thoughts or suggestions?
Thank You!!!!!! <3
If I recall you were self medicating at one point so your symptoms have been going on for a while now. Unfortunately there isn't a person on this board, even the doctors, who can diagnose your issue. You will need to go to a doctor to get this checked out. That said, I will give you a few of my thoughts. Irregular beats are generally nothing to be concerned about in a healthy heart. If your heart has not been checked then it should be. If it is deemed structurally normal then the irregular beats will have no impact on your overall health. That said, for some they can cause some of the physical symptoms you describe. People have been known to have some chest pain and shortness of breath with their ectopics but it generlly shouldn't last. Chest pain that is persistent and does not get better with rest needs to be investigated. Your heart rate, though at the top of normal is not alarming. There are many women, especially small women who tend to have a normally fast beat. These women also tend towards having lower than normal blood pressure. When you have lower than normal blood pressure you may notice things like feeling as though you may black out upon standing. I get this myself. It is suggested that you rise up a bit more slowly and that should help alleviate that issue. That said, when I get it I usually recover very quickly. I do not have issues of feeling exhuasted with little exertion. This is another symptom that should be investigated by a doctor. So this all said, you really need to let your parents know you are not feeling well so they can take you to get checked out. You don't need to see 1,000 doctors just one who will likely initially do a blood work up and possibly send you to a cardiologist to get your heart worked up.
The blood test should help determine if your electrolytes are out of balance. If they are it may be one reason for your symptoms. You may also have an issue with your thyroid. Being a young woman your hormones are starting to ramp up and it may have triggered an issue with your thyroid that needs to be addressed. These are conditions that can likely be managed with medications or supplements but it is important that you go and see a doctor since you are having symptoms that show signs your heart is in a bit of distress. It is very likely the heart is being affected by some other condition but you need to be checked out to know for sure what is going on and how to treat it. I am sure your parents would want to know that you are not feeling well. I would think they would be more upset if you didn't tell them and things got worse then if you tell them now so please do not put this off. It is best you go and see someone. Take care and feel better soon. Keep us posted on how you are doing.
I agree with Michelle. You need to get it checked out. There are so many things it could be, not just your heart. Your doc will do some basic tests and blood tests just to make sure and to help you feel better :)
Thank you for such a good anwser. :) i actually have been diagnosed with Sinus pauses when I was younger but these heartbeats feel different and worse than my occasional sinus pauses... Anyways I'll def. ask my mom to talk me to a doctor. Thank you so much!!!!! And I'm not self medicating with anything..only Advil for my headaches. xD
I should have stressed that even taking Advil everyday is self medicating. If you find yourself at any point needing any sort of meds, over the counter or not, without knowing first the cause of your symptoms then you are self medicating. Any medication, OTC or otherwise, can have adverse affects on the body if taken for an extended amount of time so if you notice you need even advil now or in the future everyday then just go see a doctor to find out what is wrong. Most people think the meds at the store are safe but nothing is really safe it taken too often. Too much of a good thing is the saying. Anyways, I remember you needing the pain meds before and want to stress if you are still needing them you need to find out why. Good luck at the doctors and do keep us posted.
Just another thought on the Advil. I can't take any of that "stuff" as I am on an anticoagulant, but to my recall Advil is a super strength ibuprofen and I say heed the instructions which may say not to take more that a few (limited) number of days without consultation with your doctor. This stuff can destroy one's stomach. My wife took it heavy duty a few years back and came up with an ulcer. We think that is now healed, but if she takes Advil (or ibuprofen, for lower cost) it is only with food and not more than a day or two. She has some age related joint pain problems as the reason for taking these pain killers.
That said, I take a low dose aspirin for my heart condition, and my doctor concurs - I take it breakfast, food.
I agree with everyone you should get checked out. Confront it don't run away from it and it will help you deal with it. Maybe you have high BP. I get a funny felling in the back of my head when my BP is up. I also had episodes of almost passing out and they are linking it to maybe I was going in and out of AFIB. I am on Toprol now and that seems to abate the passing out feeling and it covers up my palpitations. Go to the doctor and get checked out, you are too young to just live with something like that!
