Thank you for your information. I appreciate it very much
Hi,
I spent some time yesterday reading about the disorder. I've never heard of it before. From my reading, I wasn't under the impression that medication could cure it, yet it exists to varying degress in different people. (i.e. some people have mild cases of it, some more serious). Oddly enough, I do believe that it said that Stroke was a possible complications associated with this disorder in SOME people.
From Wikipedia:
"Myxomatous degeneration refers to a pathological weakening of connective tissue. The term is most often used in the context of mitral valve prolapse, which is known more technically as "myxomatous degeneration of the mitral valve."
The degeneration occurs in conjunction with an accumulation of dermatan sulfate, a glycosaminoglycan, within the connective tissue matrix of the valve. The exact mechanism is unknown.
In many cases, the degeneration is limited to the mitral valve and follows a benign course."
This was typical of some of the other articles that I saw. Ask your Doctor for more information, ask about exerting yourself, medications that you should be taking, and what eating/smoking/drinking habits should be avoided in your case. If stroke may one day be a complication, ask your Doctor what you can do now to help avoid this. (And I am by no means saying that you are a candidate for a stroke, simply that it was mentioned in the context of some people with more serious forms of the disorder).
Be well.
